Speech Recognition Technology (SRT)

What is it?
In collaboration with TRS Institute and 3M Health Information Systems, the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) has developed a first of its kind speech recognition editing course. This course is being offered exclusively through TRS Institute and will:

  • Assist the practicing MT to confidently make the transition from standard transcription production worker to successful SRT knowledge-based worker.
  • Provide medical transcription schools and programs an option to broaden their curriculum.
  • Offer employers an excellent training opportunity for their workforce.

This course is a 100% online, self-study SRT course with open enrollment and is designed to be completed at the student’s individual pace within an approximate 8 to 12-week timeframe.  It offers the student the opportunity for ample hands-on practice on 3M’s ChartScript.com platform using authentically speech recognized drafts from genuine physicians.

Who should take this course?
Any MT who wants job security. The demand for speech recognition editing skills is increasing dramatically due to tighter hospital budgets, the aging population and the continued labor shortage. Speech recognition editing is a skill that will help you remain competitive and stay employed in spite of economic changes and technological advances in healthcare documentation.

What is the cost of the SRT Course?
The cost of the SRT course is $450, but if you are a member of AHDI the member price is $395. Students who satisfactorily complete the course will receive a certificate of completion along with 10 CECs, (Continuing Education Credits), from AHDI.

Cardiology

 

What is it?
Cardiology is a challenging field for MTs due to the unique terminology, equipment and technology. The goal of this program is to have students well-vested and qualified for professional success. This course is preapproved by AHDI for 10 CM CECs

Who should take this course?
If you have an interest in cardiology or perhaps you want to brush up on your general knowledge; this course is for you! The Cardiology Specialty Course is very comprehensive and quite relevant in today's market, where MTs with a cardiology background are high in demand. 

What does the Cardiology Course cover?
This 6-week course encompasses anatomy and physiology of the heart, cardiovascular symptomatology and assessment, cardiac disease conditions, pharmacology, and diagnostic studies. Each week, students will be presented with a slide show (webinar) by the instructor, followed by online activities that are computer graded. The webinars cover an extensive amount of information and are recorded for later viewing in case a student cannot attend the live presentation. Students will transcribe practice cardiology reports, which will be reviewed by the instructor and feedback will be given to the student. During the entire course, the instructor will be available to answer questions by e-mail as well as in the course discussion forum.

The cost of the Cardiology Specialty Course is $250.00. Registration will allow you six weeks to complete the course and upon completion you will receive a certificate of course completion.

Diagnostic Imaging

What is it?
Diagnostic imaging tests are a part of nearly every report transcribed by a medical transcriptionist. This area of diagnostic testing plays a crucial role in medical decision making, and each test has a set of terminology, abbreviations, and descriptions all its own. To ensure that information pertaining to these tests is accurately transcribed into a patient’s medical record, a transcriptionist must have a thorough understanding of the purpose of each test, as well as the testing process and the terminology used to describe the results. This 4-week self-study course entails online learning via recorded webinars, weekly outlines, exercises, and transcription reports; and a Final Exam. Educational topics include transmission and reflection imaging, emission imaging and nuclear medicine studies, and interventional radiology and radiation oncology. This course is preapproved by AHDI for 10 CM CECs.

Any practicing healthcare documentation specialist (including but not limited to medical transcriptionists, quality assurance auditors, and speech editors) desiring advanced knowledge and transcription practice in this area.
